April 14, 2011We arrived in Amsterdam after a decent night’s sleep (if that’s possible on an airplane). After a brief layover we were off to Kilimanjaro. On this flight I sat next to Warren, an anthropologist who will be spending a month in Mwanza observing and educating mothers in best health practices for their children. He’s from the US, but moved to Canada a few years back. He now lives in the South of France with his family.
I believe this was a God encounter as I was originally seated in the back of the plane but just as I was about to watch a movie (True Grit) the stewardess said she had a better seat for me and that I should follow her. Not only was it a better seat but I was able to meet Warren and talk to him throughout the flight about what John and I were doing in Mwanza. He seemed like a very likable guy and truly interested in what I was saying. I gave him my card as we were waiting for our luggage at the Mwanza Airport. I mentioned that I had gone on a trip with World Vision and he spoke very well of them. He had seen first hand how they work for the betterment of a community. I did eventually see True Grit.
We arrived in Kilimanjaro and after obtaining our VISAs took a taxi to KIA Lodge where I slept the night away. John wasn’t so lucky as he was awake most of the night.
Here’s a photo from my room at the lodge just outside of Kilimanjaro Airport:
